Luang Ta addressed a group of luksits in front of him,
"Now why were all of you born? If you think about this question, you might not be able to find an answer. Because there are all kinds of reasons.
But the truth is, we were born in accordance with our kamma and we come here and start creating new kamma due to our lack of awareness. And we are here to receive the consequences of our past kammic actions, but the new kamma that we create is also significant.
Part of our past kamma is also used up from the day we were born. It ripened when we took rebirth here in this particular place and in certain conditions. These kammic causes resulted in us being subject to certain environments and circumstances. This was due to our past actions.
However, the remainder of it depends on the new kamma that we are creating right now. All of you here need to understand why we were born.
Born to be a filial child, find a good job, and be a good citizen. But these are worldly duties, which should be done, but are not enough. There is still one more duty we must do as human beings.
If you believe in the Lord Buddha who was enlightened to all things, then when we listen to his teachings we should know that we are born to walk to the end of suffering itself. Some people, when we hear the Buddha's teachings, realise that everything they have done in their life was wrong.
Some people say, "Where have you been? I have been living in unawareness for the last 70 years. I only understood the truth today."
Therefore, we have to change our way of thinking. Some people do not manage to hear the Dhamma until its too late. Some people do not meet the Dhamma in time, they die, and already got reborn in another life.
All of you must be confident. This path is not difficult to see. This life is the best, we should progress in our spiritual life. We meet Kalyāṇamits and search for Kruba Ajaans. They do not need to be Phra Arahants, just Phra who practice well and walk in the footsteps of the Buddha.
That is enough.
But Luang Ta adheres to the principle of Luang Pu Doo, "one is more than enough." (Luang Ta laughs)
Luang Pu, the teacher of Luang Ta, always told his students that
"Things like this must be known by oneself," as the Buddha taught."
