The teachings of Ajahn Suchart.

“When you meditate, when you stop thinking, your mind will be light and happy.”
Question: “Do you always know if or when you have entered into samādhi while meditating?”
Than Ajahn: “Yes. Meditating is like driving a car.
When you are driving your car, when you change gears, you’ll notice the difference – the car is moving faster and the sound of the engine becomes quieter. It is the same way with the mind.
When you meditate, you are shifting the gear of the mind - turning from fast gear to a slower gear and eventually to a full stop.
If you haven’t noticed any difference, it means you haven’t shifted your gear yet, you haven’t achieved any result yet.
You were just sitting there and trying to calm your mind. Your mind has yet to become calm.
So, you don’t see the difference.
If your mind becomes calmer, you’ll see the difference.
Try to sit more. Sit for a long period of time. And develop a lot of mindfulness. You need mindfulness to make your mind calm, to make your mind stop thinking.
If your mind becomes calmer, you’ll be able to see the difference. Before sitting in meditation, your mind might be thinking about this and that, and when you meditate, when you stop thinking, your mind will be light and happy.”
