Luang Phor Paiboon Sumangalo
Once there was a monk who saw that Luang Phor Paiboon was very “well-to-do”. He had many devotees who would flock to him to pay respects and offer him all the requisites.
So this monk got envious and also wanted to learn Luang Phor’s secret.
He went up to Luang Phor and asked “Tahn Ajaan I also want to become affluent and have many devotees come to me. What should I do?”
Luang Phor replied, “Well its not that difficult at all. You just go and meditate first. Go sit and close your eyes and pawana continuously.
When the right time arrives, all these things will come of their own.”
So the monk followed Luang Phor’s advice and sat in meditation everyday for around a week. He realised he wasn’t getting any richer so he went to visit Luang Phor again saying, “I have been praying for a week but I still haven’t gotten anything. At this rate I’m going to pray until I die.”
Luang Phor replied, “You have only been practising for a week. And if you are praying with desire, that is not real pawana. Desire is like a curtain that completely blocks out the light. You won’t be able to see anything.
Whether you can get anything or not, whether devotees will come to offer you requisites or not. Don’t be vexed and trouble yourself over it.
If it is meant to be yours, when the right time arrives it will come of itself [but you have to make the right causes first].”
