"Bodhisattas of each era do their best, perfecting their Parami to the fullest, putting forth their best efforts. There isn’t one of them who lazes around."
~ Dhamma of Luang Ta Ma Wiriyatharo
Somdej Toh encourages his devotees to pray often, to suat the Chinnabanchorn. Even when he is building Buddha images, he builds large ones whether they be reclining Buddhas or Buddhas sitting in samadhi.
Another example is the Luang Phor Toh or Phra Si Ariyamettrai standing at Wat Intharawihan.
Another Bodhisatta monk Luang Phor Paan, he build not less than a hundred Bohts. That period during history was a period of change and transition. Building Dhamma schools to support the Sasana until the end of his life.
A third example is Kruba Sriwichai, the famous developer Bodhisatta monk of the North. Building chedis to house relics, building temples, and even building the road up the mountain to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Never giving up even though he faced obstacles and imprisonment due to distrust from certain officials.
Another Bodhisatta that Luang Ta felt was a good example was Luang Pu Kruba Wong, who went tudong around each of the villages in the north. Until many villagers became his luksits and were converted by him.
When Kruba Wong decided to settle down at Wat Phra Phutthabat Huai Tom, many followers came and stayed with him. Eventually, almost the whole village of Baan Phra Bat Huai Tom was converted to vegetarianism by Kruba Chaiyawongsa, and paid homage to the Buddha instead of spirits.
And we have Luang Pu Doo Prompanyo, who sat on the hard wooden floor receiving guests from dawn to dusk until his buttocks developed sores, hardly leaving his kuti because he was concerned that his disciples would not be able to find him.
Once Luang Pu Ngon recommended that they hang a sign outside Luang Pu Doo’s kuti to allow him more rest time, because receiving so many guests was affecting his health, but Luang Pu forbade it. In the end, the overwork caused his heart condition to deteriorate.
Today, Luang Ta Ma follows in the footsteps of all the Bodhisatta monks to serve the public and promote meditation. Many temples invite him to give talks and preside over consecration ceremonies, and Luang Ta is often on the move travelling here and there despite his old age, worsening his health condition.
He also has many branch temples dependent on him, for example, people at Wat Tham Muang Na can live and eat there for free. Luang Ta has to spend energy to consecrate many batches of amulets to support their expenses.
All Bodhisattas give their best effort wherever and whenever they are born to support the Buddha Sasana, helping people and helping spirits, sharing metta and merit with all sentient beings. Luksits who follow the Bodhisatta path must also be energetic to benefit all beings, just like Luang Ta’s Dhamma name “Wiriya”.
