After we perform good deeds, we will tend to make a wish,
“By the power of this merit that I have performed, I would like to ask for a heavenly rebirth as a tewada or to become a maha setthi (millionaire).”
Adithaning like this shouldn’t be encouraged. If we practice and behave well, or tamboon to make merit, it is to perfect our parami, nekkhamma parami, sila parami, dana parami and metta parami.
But most of us do not place emphasis on Nibbana at all, neither do we think of perfecting our parami. All we wish is to become wealthy millionaires, and get more kilesas (defilements) in turn.
We want to get involved with greed, hatred and delusion. Or want to become male devas or female deities.
Wishing like this does not help solve the problem of the kilesas. If we can solve the problem of the kilesas, we become Phra Arahants and attain Nibbana.
Our desire or wish must be to attain Nibbana and reach enlightenment. In this way, can it be considering perfecting your parami.
Wanting to become millionaires or reach high statuses, becoming better than that of others, this is just asking for more kilesas.
All of us need to understand that the most important thing is metta. Metta results in a lot of ānisaṃsa.
Metta is the most excellent.
