Luang Phor Jaran Thitattamo

Some people sit cross-legged in front of the Buddha statue and start to adithan. They adithan for a lot of things. Adithan to go to heaven.

Adithan to reach Nibbana. Adithan to have a happy family. This is impossible. Don't adithan like that - this is wrong practice.

Adhiṭṭhāna means to make a firm determination for oneself. It is about taking responsibility for one's own welfare. It is about fulfilling one's duties. You can't be abandoning your own duties and just sit there, adithaning for your child to behave well, your husband to be good or your trade to be profitable.

This is not called Adithan, this is called making wishes and asking for things. It is impractical. Now whether you get rich or not depends on your own heart. Whether you are practising metta and generosity, whether you watch out for one another.

True wealth depends on the richness of one's heart. Whether it is full of goodness and ease.

And thus even if the body is tired, the heart is light and bright.
