All great teachers show immense devotion towards their masters, whether it is Luang Ta Ma to Luang Pu Doo, Luang Ta Maha Bua to Luang Pu Mun, or disciples of Luang Phor Chah to him.

To them, their Kruba Ajaans are not just teachers, they are also like their parents, hence the term “Phor Mae Kruba Ajaan”.

Luang Pu Waen Sucinno and Luang Phor Noo Sucitto had a very special affinity. It was because of Luang Pu Noo’s invitation that Luang Pu Waen came to stay at Wat Doi Mae Pang. When Luang Pu Waen was ill, he would usually not want to accept any medication if Luang Phor Noo wasn’t around. He had already made up his mind that since he had gone to stay at Wat Doi Mae Pang, he would never go anywhere else again, even if someone had invited him. Therefore it was difficult for his devotees to convince him to get treated at the hospital sometimes.

But occasionally it was necessary, such as when Luang Pu Waen suffered a bad fall in the bathroom and had to be admitted. Luang Phor Noo would have to sleep over at the hospital to take care of him. One day, when Luang Phor Noo had to visit another temple to accept the pha paa donation, and then he got back, the caretakers told Luang Phor Noo that Luang Pu Waen had refused to speak or take medication while he was gone.

After Luang Pu Waen had been discharged from the hospital, his body was still weak and he needed to take medication. But Luang Phor Noo was invited to his hometown of Yasothon to a kathina ceremony.

Luang Phor Noo thought it was a good idea, so he could visit his relatives for about 5 to 6 days. After he had gone for 2 days, Luang Pu Waen suddenly asked where he was. Upon being told that Luang Phor Noo had gone away without having notified him, Luang Pu Waen again decided not to take his medication.

That night, while Luang Pu Noo was sitting in meditation, a nimitta arose where a Phayakut (Garuda) flew into his kuti where he was. It was a very clear vision, and he knew something was wrong. The next morning, he immediately arranged for a car to take him back to Wat Doi Mae Pang. He went straight to Luang Pu Waen and asked why he hasn’t been taking his medication, to which Luang Pu laughed and said okay, he will continue to take his food and medication as per usual.

As Luang Pu Waen was famous and many people thronged to see him, take his photos, or ask for his hair or items to make amulets, Luang Phor Noo was the one who had to be the “bad guy” and reject many devotees. So many people called Luang Phor Noo the “demon king” for obstructing them from seeing Luang Pu Waen. Thus Luang Phor Noo as the abbot had a difficult time managing the temple affairs as well as protecting Luang Pu Waen. Nonetheless, he remained loyal and dedicated to Luang Pu Waen till the end.

Luang Pu Waen passed away at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital on Tuesday, July 2, 1985, when he was 98 years old and spent 78 rains (vassa) as a monk.
