The Teaching of Luang Ta Ma Wiriyatharo.

The Teaching of Luang Ta Ma Wiriyatharo.

About the matter of [past] merit and sin, don’t be too anxious about it or give it too much thought. The amount of merit and demerit made by each individual is different. Which one will ripen and affect him or her now, no one can know.

When we experience difficulties, suffering and obstacles, then we will realise that our unwholesome kamma is ripening. It is just the consequences of the deeds we have performed in the past. But when we experience happiness and auspicious events, just know that it is the result of meritorious actions done in the past.

However, majority of humans will tend to have suffering in their lives. And a source of that suffering is usually our loved ones, our family, spouse or children. But the truth is that our loved ones may come from a different world or realm as us. Some of them may even be our Chao Gam Nai Wen (Kammic Creditors) and so they have attitudes and mindsets that are very different from our own.

We may always be giving in or assisting them, but if it is beyond our capability, we have to exercise some equanimity. Some people are in the period of their lives where their old bad kamma is ripening. So they have to experience suffering and must accept their condition.

As Luang Pu Doo liked to say, “The most holy thing that can transcend and conquer all other sacred amulets or prayers is the Law of Kamma.”

Therefore if we understand this, we must exercise mindfulness and restraint even if bad things happen. If we wanted to cry, we will find ourselves crying less. If we wanted to cry a little, we will understand this is how things are and not cry at all.
